If your New Year’s resolutions are around health, physical stamina and strength, your new year purchases might be an elliptical cycle, a treadmill, a new gym membership, etc. But for those looking to power-up their mental game, in business, or any other arena of life, a stack of well written books might be your arsenal of choice.

Though I have some definite health goals this year, I also have firm mental goals. I’ve already chosen the first book I’ll read to kick off a powerful 2018. Have you?

Personally, I knew early on that my kickoff book would be Tim Ferriss’ humongous new tome. And since he’s been into cranking out these large treatises lately, I also knew it would be a nice chunk of change. So, I ransacked one of Barnes and Noble's crazy post-holiday / post-apocalyptic sales. By the time I finished applying all the discounts for my purchase, the B&N clerk was almost paying me money for getting the book.

It was one of those where they take 40% off the listed price which was already marked down 100% –– and that was from the previous 35% discount offered only to exclusive online customers –– but now to in-store customers too –– but only before midnight –– and only to those who have friends with an exclusive B&N book buyer membership.

I had that.

Luckily, my membership holder friend and I were at the B&N at The Grove in Hollywood. So I had until 11 PM to catch the book of my choice before the clock struck midnight. I think I nabbed it 10 mins before store closing.

Ferris’ latest is called “Tribe of Mentors" featuring the wit and wisdom of world-class high-performers from every arena of life.  If you’re one of the millions who love his podcast, you’re probably going to love this book.

If you are looking to optimize how you show up in the world, how you show up in your career, how you show up in business, how you show up in health, how you show up in the realm of relationships, you might want to follow my lead and pick up a really good book this week. 2018 will only be as great as you make it. Start now.

So…

What’s going to be your first book of 2018?
