Why You Are Only Half-Human
Don’t ever mistake the advancement of your technology for the advancement of humanity. Those are two totally separate an distinct things.
We see a world today leaping forward by leaps and bounds, when it comes to technology, while leaping BACKWARD by leaps and bounds, when it comes to its humanity.
Western culture is such a “material/physical” based culture that it forgets the construct of human beings (as well as the construct of a civil society of human beings) is about more than that which is material/physical. Physicality is only half of the construct of what we are as humans. Yes, we are physical anatomical bodies with need of material/physical things to help our physicality to do and accomplish greater feats. But we are also one-half spiritual/emotional/psychological, which some would argue is the most important and integral part of what we are. The proof of this truth is that most of our physical quests are truly to satisfy secret emotional needs, emotional thirsts, emotional hungers and emotional lacks we dare not admit to the public world.
You want to be rich to emotionally feel secure and free of vulnerability––if you tell the truth about the matter. You want to be the strongest nation on earth and build a war-chest of high-tech weaponry for the same reason on a societal level––emotional security––to calm collective “feelings’ of vulnerability. Your interlinking smartphones and social media networks were originally to increase your “connection” to other human beings in a world of lonely, sequestered urban dwellers who have forgotten how to live via authentic human contact.
We have big concrete cities overrun with people of little concrete hearts, secretly suffering in their lonely apartments...
Go watch the biopic on Mark Zuckerberg (The Social Network) and watch how a so-called “geek’s” emotional wounding and emotional thirsts drove him to create what would become the biggest social media network on planet earth.
The problem with the way we approach life in the Western world is that we seek to satiate emotional needs via physical pursuits and always end up losing in spectacular ‘looking’ ways. We win in the physical realm and keep losing in the spiritual/emotional/psychological. We have big concrete cities overrun with people of little concrete hearts, secretly suffering in their lonely apartments––crying in Gucci sheets, with 150k salaries, high-tech everything and a low-touch lives. It is no wonder drug addiction is at epidemic levels. People are hurting.
Human beings were not built to service only half of themselves. Perhaps this is why so many people are filled with life complaint––in so many words, claiming to be only half-alive or often half-dead––because the most important part of themselves is neglected and un-tended to and uncultivated for enrichment. This is incredibly unwise. It’s like riding a motorcycle with one tire inflated and one tire flat. Yes, that’s going to go well. Good luck.
In my opinion, technological advancement has only left us with ‘Lives of Convenience’ but not ‘Lives of Wisdom’––often rendering us a nation of high-tech idiots––with more advanced ways to destroy our quality of living in the places where it really counts.
How advanced is the spiritual/emotional/psychological part of yourself, America? Our lives are struggling with our high IQ’s (Intelligence Quotient) and wholly incompetent EQ's (Emotional Quotient). And there is nothing INTELLIGENT about that––at all––is it?
